The Projection Collection is an exploration about how saturated light, projection, pattern and color relate to the figure. The artist David Reed wrote extensively about technicolor light, the rich way in which the contemporary viewer interacts with imagery via a screen, versus the historical illumination of natural light.
Ashley's relationship with color and projected light is experienced thought light: a television, a computer screen, a projector, or a phone. She is particularly influenced by the true crime shows, to which she admits that she obsessively consumes through a device. As they say, art imitates life, and similar to her paintings, in each episode the body is always the catalyst in the narrative.
Luckily for us, no mini bodies were harmed in the making of these.
