I'm Amanda - mom, miniature enthusiast, and founder of The Designer Dollhouse. I'm also a licensed Interior Designer with over a decade of experience in creating custom homes for clients. And one day, I decided I was going to combine these two passions and formulate a concoction that would rival even the craziest mad scientist, all while breathing new life into this mini industry I am so utterly fond of and putting my own spin on it.
Ever since I was a kiddo, I have had a love affair with dollhouses and design. I always had more dollhouses than dolls to live in them and spent hours arranging their rooms - and mine as well. It all started with Barbie, naturally, but as I grew up, I discovered a world at 1" scale and built my first dollhouse in high school with my Dad from scratch.
As life got more complicated, my mini love got put on the back burner, but it always managed to resurface from time to time. Then, around the summer of 2018, I lit the match on that eternal flame and haven't looked back since. I vowed to spend more time with them because they make me truly happy. Life is short and you gotta live it.
So I started an Instagram page (@thedesignerdollhouse of course) and immersed myself back into this little world of wonder. I loved my miniatures, but I felt like they needed updating and wanted them to reflect items I would use in the real life interiors I create for clients.
One sleepless night, I awoke at 3 am with dollhouses on the brain and stumbled across a miniatures club that has been nothing but life-changing. I am proud to say that I am not only a member of the Les Petites Collecteurs, a #1 Blue Ribbon NAME (National Association of Miniature Enthusiasts) Club fourteen years in a row, but that I also serve on the board as the Coordinating Secretary.
The journey thus far has been amazing and I have met so many wonderful people through this collective passion. I still have a lot to learn, but one thing I know for sure is that everyone has a dollhouse story. Miniatures have a rich history that continues to evoke a sense of nostalgia and wonderment in people. This is my story. Thanks for letting me share it with you.
